Tip of the week

Standing corn fields are obvious places to hunt deer in the early archery season. Often, though, deer hang back and don’t actually get to the fields until dark. So rather than look for them right on the edge of the crops, find a trail they’re using to get there and set up on it, maybe 50 or even 100 yards back in the woods. You might catch them during shooting light.

Recipe of the week

Deluxe steamed green beans

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Directions

Cooking over the campfire and need something to go with your fish or game? Here’s a good side dish.

Make a bowl out of heavy duty aluminum foil. Fill with a pound or so of fresh green beans. Top with garlic, mushrooms, chunks of butter and salt and pepper to taste.

Seal tightly by wrapping the whole thing in another, larger sheet of foil, with the seams up. Place on hot vocals. Once you hear the beans starting to steam, allow to cook for 10 to 15 minutes more then serve.
