It’s always been true that hunters with money are willing to spend it, especially if it benefits conservation.
Here’s more proof.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation held its annual Hunters Rendezvous Auction in Tucson, Ariz. It auctioned off eight special elk hunting licenses for seven states, including Pennsylvania.
The total raised? How about $655,000.
Two licenses offers in New Mexico accounted for almost half of that. One went for $200,000, another for $50,000. Arizona’s elk tag went for $140,000, while one in Nevada went for $100,000
Pennsylvania’s special elk tag sold for $52,500, while others went for $50,000 in Washington, $34,000 in Colorado and $28,500 in Montana.
All of the proceeds will go to the respective states for use in managing elk and elk habitat.
In the meantime, for the sake of hunters with a less cash in hand but an equal desire to get a trophy, the Keystone Elk Country Alliance will again this year raffle off a special elk license. Details will eventually be available at the group’s website, at: http://www.experienceelkcountry.com.
