Lure of the week
Lure name: Pro Grade Tungsten
The Acme Tungsten Jig
Company: Acme Tackle Co. (www.acmetackle.com)
Lure type: Jigs
Sizes and colors: Available in two sizes, 3 and 5 mm, and eight colors: strep throat, bumble green, glow, orange crush, gold nugget, fire tiger, pink chartreuse and Da Chiz..
Target species: Crappies, bluegills, perch and walleyes.
Technique: Often used for ice fishing, these jigs can also be fished in open water. In all cases, being made from tungsten sets them apart is that, in comparison to lead, they are very heavy in relation to their size. They’re meant to drop quickly and help you maintain a straight, slack-free line, even when using very light baits.
Sugg. retail price: $4.49.
Notable: Each color of this lure features Acme’s HD2 – high definition, high durability – finishes. Some offer UV paints, others glow. All have red hooks.
Tip of the week
When approaching your deer stand, think about where whitetails are likely to be. Then avoid those places on your way in. When heading to your stand in the morning, for example, don’t walk through or even too close to the food plot you’re targeting. Deer are probably still there eating and you don’t want to spook them out ahead of you. Likewise, if you’re heading to a stand in afternoon, avoid walking through the places where deer are probably bedded.
Recipe of the week
Sausage gravy
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground pork sausage
- 3 ¼ cups whole milk
- ½ cup all purpose flour
- 1 beef bouillon cube
- 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
- black pepper to taste
Directions
Did you check out last week’s recipe for biscuits? IF so, this is the perfect thing to pair with them.
Brown the sausage in a skillet, draining off any excess grease. Add the flour and stir over low heat for several minutes, until the sausage is coated.
Slowly add the milk, then the other ingredients.
Bring to a low boil, then reduce heat and simmer until thickened.
