Lure of the week

Lure name: 3D Back Lip Diver

A new fishing lure

3D Lip Diver

Company: Savage Gear (www.savagegear-usa.com)
Lure type: Crankbait
Sizes and colors: Available in two sizes – 4-inch, ¾-ounce and 5 ¼-inch, 1 ½-ounce models – in five colors. They are bone, dirty silver, fire tiger, hitch and sexy shad.
Target species: Bass, northern pike, walleyes.
Technique: This lure is brand new to the market, just having been unveiled to the public in July at the ICAST trade show. It’s a hard-bodied lure with the crankbait-style lip in the belly and pointed to the rear. The lip folds while in the air so as not to interfere with casting, then gives the lure a side to side belly roll in the water.
Sugg. retail price: $9.99 to $11.99, depending on size.
Notable: The 3D Back Lip Diver sinks. Anglers are advised to count it down, then retrieve it as medium speeds, until fishing the depth at which fish are holding.

Tip of the week

Hunters use decoys for everything else, so why not predators, too? Predator decoys can be effective on coyotes and foxes under the right circumstances. If you can get into an area and set up a decoy without making too much extra commotion, they can work to keep a predator’s attention, especially if one is set up adjacent to an electronic caller. That keeps eyes of the hunter.

Recipe of the week

Pancake perch

Ingredients

  • 1 pound perch fillets
  • canola oil
  • 1 cup flour
  • 12 ounces Sprite (one can)
  • 1 cup pancake mix
  • 1 egg

Directions

Remove the skin from the perch fillets, wash and pat dry. Then set aside.

Combine the pancake mix, soda and egg in a bowl. Mix well, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Put the flour in a plastic bag, then add the fish. Coat the fillets with the flour.

Heat the canola oil to 375 degrees. Dip the fillets in the batter, then drop into the hot oil. Flip once, frying until golden brown on both sides.
