Gear of the week
Gear name: Block 6X6
Company: BLOCK (www.blocktarget.com/)
Gear type: Archery target
Product description: This is BLOCK’s first six-sided target. That’s what’s new. All six sides can be shot, with the four sides able to handle broadheads and field points. The top and bottom are for broadheads only. What’s old about this target is its construction. Like all BLOCK targets, it features a layered friction foam design covered by an injection-molded exterior. That’s meant to slow and stop arrows by heat and friction, yet make it easy to pull them back out.
Available options: The images on this target include the original BLOCK five-spot, the four of diamonds, and BLOCK Hexagon and vitals. He target stands 18-by18-by-16 inches and weighs 14.75 pounds.
Suggested retail price: $99.99.
Notable: This target has a pair of finger slots molded into two sides to make it easy to pick up and carry. They will not damage arrows if shot.
Tip of the week
Dutch ovens are great for making tasty meals when you’re car camping, where weight isn’t an issue. But it does take a bit of practice to get really good with one. If you’re new to using one, start out with moist dinners – i.e. soups, chili and stews – before going to something like baking bread. They’re a little more forgiving while you learning the ropes.
Recipe of the week
One apple pie
Ingredients
- apples
- cinnamon
- brown sugar
- raisins
Directions
This is a good dessert that’s fun to make when you’ve got kids in camp. They not only get to eat the treat, but they get to make their own, too.
Core and peel the apples. Tightly pack the center with the cinnamon, brown sugar and raisins.
Wrap each apple in heavy-duty aluminum foil and place it in the coals of your campfire. When it’s ready – perhaps 15 minutes later, though times vary, so experiment – take if off the coals, unwrap and enjoy.
