Several close-to-home gateways to the outdoors are getting a little love these days.
The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation has identified its top 100 fishing and boating spots for 2015, for example. Locations were chosen based on voting by 23,000 outdoorsmen and women.
And what’s one of the locations in the top 10? Keystone State Park in Westmoreland County. It came in at No. 5, trailing only Everglades National Park, Bahia Honda State Park, Blue Springs State Park and Kissimmee State Park, all of which are located in Florida.
Also making the top 10 were Presque Isle State Park in Erie County, at No. 9, and Lackawanna State Park in Montgomery County, at No. 10.
Two other local parks finished in the top 100: Moraine State Park in Butler County and Nockamixon State Park in Bucks County.
You can see the whole list by clicking here. Just be aware that the list puts a couple of state parks in Pennsylvania that aren’t here: Pocahontas Lake and Bear Creek Lake parks.
At the same time, the website onlyinyourstate.com identified 10 “epic” hikes in Pennsylvania. One western Pennsylvania location made the list: Raccoon Creek State Park in Beaver County.
You can check out the list here.
If you want to visit any of those places, or just spend time outdoors, June 13 is national Get Outdoors Day. A number of special events are planned across the state. You can check out what’s happening here.
