How did hunters of your age fare last season in taking whitetails across Pennsylvania?

For those who didn’t see it, I wrote a story for Sunday’s paper looking at the ages of hunters who reported taking a deer in the 2015-16 seasons. That was slightly more than 103,000 unique people.
I thought it might be fun to see – based admittedly on one season, and only deer officially reported – at what ages Pennsylvania deer hunters were at their most lethal in the deer woods then. The Pennsylvania Game Commission provided answers.
It turns out guys (and/or gals) 54 years old killed more deer last fall and winter than did any other age group. In fact, those 49 to 64 were more productive at taking deer than any other age group.

In the meantime, in case anyone’s wondering, I put in below the entire age-harvest breakdown, so you can see how hunters of your own age class did.
Ages listed are the age of the hunter as of the first day of the firearms deer season. That means if you shot a whitetail with your bow on Oct. 20, when you were 30, and turned 31 on Nov. 4, you’re listed as a 31-year-old because that was your age when the rifle season started on Nov. 30.
That may not be perfect, but with all those reports to consider, the commission had to start somewhere.
